Prayer for the Election of a New Pope

Heavenly Father, We, the People of God, gathered iCardinals in Sistine Chapeln solidarity as did the disciples in the Upper Room, pray for the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the cardinals who will be in conclave for the election of the next Vicar of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May the hearts of our cardinals be open to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, beyond any human judgment, to elect the candidate most pleasing to You, Heavenly Father, and who will guide the Church at this momentous time in history at the beginning of the Third Millennium.

We invoke our Mother Mary, united in prayer with the disciples in the Upper Room, to intercede for our cardinals to select the next Holy Father in docility to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, her divine Spouse.

Holy Mary, Mother of God and of the Church, we entrust this conclave to your maternal and Immaculate Heart, and offer these prayers for your guidance and protection over the choosing of the next Vicar of your Son:

1 Our Father
1 Hail Mary
1 Glory Be

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!

The Rosary

In Pope John Paul II’s top three prayers (after the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours), and urged by Our Lady for people around the world to pray, the Rosary is a powerful prayer that enables individual’s to grow in their prayer life. Pope Paul V described the Rosary as a treasure of graces, while Pope John XXIII prayed fifteen decades daily!

Here are some more reasons to pray the Rosary;

  • My impression is that the Rosary is one of the greatest value not only according to the words of Our Lady at Fatima, but according to the effects of the Rosary one sees throughout history. My impression is that Our Lady wanted to give ordinary people, who might not know how to pray, this simple method of getting closer to God (Sr. Lucia, on of the seers of Fatima)
  • The Rosary is a magnificent and universal prayer for the needs of the Church, the nations, and the entire world (Pope John XXIII)
  • The Rosary is the compendium of the entire Gospel (Pope Paul VI quoting Pope Pius XII)

Want to start but don’t know where?

It can be hard to start up, if you are not used to praying the Rosary or if you haven’t prayed it for a long time. Don’t let this deter you!

There is a website http://www.comepraytherosary.org/ where, after a few clicks, you can join in a Pepetual Rosary or set up your own individual Rosary. There is an accompanying video, which features images of the Holy Land with a selection of serene backgrounds, and a congregation praying the Rosary to guide you through it.

Prayer for the Papal visit to Britain

God of truth and love,
your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light
to all who seek you with a sincere heart.
As we strive with your grace
to be faithful in word and deed,
may we reflect the kindly light of
Christ and offer a witness of hope
and peace to all.

 We pray for Pope Benedict
and look forward with joy
to his forthcoming visit to our countries.
May he be a witness to the unity and hope
which is your will for all people.
We make our prayer through
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Lady, Mother of the Church – pray for us.
St Andrew – pray for us.
St George – pray for us.
St David – pray for us.
